Older unemployed people will have a place to go for job help with the AARP Foundation granting the Institute for Workforce Innovation $190,880 to create the Lake Area Older Adult Job Center, the institute announced Friday.
The center will serve as a one-stop career services center for unemployed people older than 50 from Alachua, Bradford, Clay and Putnam counties at the institute’s Melrose Senior Community Center campus at 307 State Road 26. Services will include job skills workshops, resume assistance, retraining, employment placement and follow-up.
The center will offer limited job-seeker services by the end of the month and plans to be in full operation by the end of April.
The institute also will establish two businesses to employ older adults — a survey call center in partnership with the Florida Survey Research Center and a Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver services division.
