The Institute for Workforce Innovation (IWI) is pleased to announce that Project YouthBuild (PYB) participated in AmeriCorps Week. PYB helped The Ronald McDonald House with their annual spring cleaning. The all-day event took place on 3/14/2013.
Michael McMahon, Project YouthBuild Program Manager stated:
The students showed up ready to work. They had a great time working with the staff at the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House was an amazing host. They were organized with tasks for the students, and they generously provided our students with refreshments in the morning and fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. The students were really impressed with Ronald McDonald House’s mission, and they loved the facility. They all can’t wait to come back and volunteer again. The Ronald McDonald House expressed interest in having the PYB students come back and participate in other service activities.
Project YouthBuild’s goal is to improve the lives of young people. PYB’s students are between the ages of 16 & 24, from low-income households, have not completed high school or equivalent (GED), and have a desire to transform their lives. This transformation is accomplished through an intensive 7-month program where students study for their GED, build and rehabilitate low income housing, earn nationally recognized construction certifications, and develop leadership, life and employability skills.
