Elijah Hamilton (Project ReStart)

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Nobody knows this quite like Elijah Hamilton. Looking for work in the middle of the great recession was enough to make some wither. Especially for older workers who’ve been out of the workforce for several years. Many would lose their hope, but not Elijah. He rose to the occasion and did what he could to develop his skills so that the next employer couldn’t refuse him a job.

He started by enrolling in the IWI Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) where he gained access to new job and technical computer skills to make him more marketable. Elijah was placed in a SCSEP job training position at FloridaWorks where he quickly became a rising star. He took advantage of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program and received digital access training to increase his technological prowess. It wasn’t long after until he was hired by IWI as a Customer Service Representative at FloridaWorks.

Some might be contented at this great accomplishment, but Elijah is not one to rest on his laurels. He continued to excel in his position and was offered a job with the State of Florida working as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) at FloridaWorks. Naturally, he accepted this promotion and has been helping veterans obtain job skills and employment ever since. Our hats are off to Elijah who serves as a reminder that hard work does pay off and that with a little perseverance, all things are possible.
